Glenn Hauser is a U.S. Army veteran and former Combat Engineer with the 588th Engineer Battalion at Fort Polk, Louisiana. The values I developed in the military—precision, discipline, and mission-focused execution—have guided my work throughout my coatings career spanning more than 40 years.
I have served the industry in multiple capacities, including painter, paint foreman, contractor, business owner, and technical service professional. I spent over two decades in the Technical Service Department of a major paint manufacturer, where I led failure investigations, supervised compatibility testing, managed the technical service lab, and provided technical guidance for repair strategies.
For the past 20 years, I have conducted numerous coating failure analyses, helping clients navigate complex issues with practical, experience-driven solutions. My work is rooted in deep field knowledge and a commitment to doing things right the first time.
I'm an instructor for the AMPP Coating Inspector Program (CIP), where I help train the next generation of coating professionals. My diverse background gives me a unique perspective that bridges application, inspection, and technical support.
I'm an active member of the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), serving as a voting member on several technical committees. I was also a long-time member of both NACE and SSPC before their merger in 2020 into AMPP.
In addition, I serve on the Material Performance Magazine Technical Advisory Board, the industry's leading publication.
With a career built on expertise, integrity, and service, Glenn D. Hauser remains a trusted and respected figure in the protective coatings field.
Overcoating Doesn’t Have to Be a Gamble
Overcoating can sometimes feel like rolling the dice, hoping the new coating system will properly adhere to the existing one. But it doesn’t have to be a guessing game.
A coating survey is a valuable tool to assess whether a structure is a good candidate for overcoating. At Glenn Hauser Consulting, we perform thorough, on-site coating surveys that take the uncertainty out of the process.
During the survey, we evaluate a variety of critical factors that help inform sound, data-driven recommendations, including:
Our goal is to help you make informed decisions that protect your assets, extend service life, and minimize costly failures. With decades of field and technical experience, we’ll help you approach your overcoating project with clarity and confidence. A visual and physical inspection of the existing condition of the coatings.
Adhesion Testing You Can Rely On
There are many situations where adhesion testing is essential—from verifying compliance with a project specification to confirming the bond strength of a laminate or overcoat system.
At Glenn Hauser Consulting, we offer reliable, standards-based adhesion testing to support your coating assessment needs. Whether required by an owner, contractor, or specification, we can perform adhesion testing in accordance with the following ASTM standards:
With decades of field and technical experience, we ensure testing is performed properly, documented accurately, and interpreted with the insight only hands-on expertise can provide.
Experienced Oversight That Protects Your Coating Investment
Third-party inspectors play a critical role in coating projects, ensuring that surface preparation, application, and curing are performed precisely according to specification. Their oversight helps prevent costly errors, delays, and premature failures.
With over 40 years in the coatings industry, as an applicator, contractor, inspector, and over two decades in the Technical Service Department of a major coating manufacturer, I bring a broad, hands-on perspective to every project. As an AMPP Coating Inspection Program instructor, I’ve also trained professionals in what it takes to do the job right.
We have the expertise to help keep your project on track and ensure it’s completed to the highest standards.
Clear, Complete Coating Specifications—Done Right
Specifications are among the most critical documents in any coating project. Unfortunately, they are often incomplete, unclear, or inconsistent—leading to confusion, costly delays, or even coating failures.
I can help you develop clear, detailed, and accurate specifications that eliminate ambiguity and ensure every stakeholder is aligned from start to finish. Let’s prevent problems before they start.
Understanding Coating Failures—And Solving Them
Coating failures can and do happen—sometimes without a clear cause. With over 20 years of experience conducting in-depth failure investigations and training others in the process, I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is to uncover the root cause quickly and accurately.
Whether your failure is straightforward or complex, we have the expertise to guide a thorough investigation and help you determine exactly what went wrong—and how to prevent it in the future.
